Love Chase, released on 7.4.12, is Yamashita Tomohisa’s 6th single. The title track is used as the ending song for the anime Toriko.
「LOVE CHASE」 starts up gradually with an electronica and synthesizer beat before Yamapi sings a starting verse with a bit of autotune to his vocals. The autotune continues for the rest of the song as Yamapi sings in a low sneaky tone. Later on he does a rap though it sounds a bit lacking. The whole song is pretty much lacking.
A guitar and a keyboard instrumental begins 「Inside, Outside」 as Yamapi sings calmly with the beat of the song. It’s an upbeat song but not so upbeat that it goes overboard; there is still a slight laidback and calm feeling to the way Yamapi is singing and also the instrumental. Feels like there’s something missing from this song too… maybe something to make the listeners’ excitement rise? Or something that really gets the listener into the song. As it is right now, it ain’t happening.
Last is 「君と風と三日月 (Kimi to Kaze to Mikazuki)」 which is a combination of keyboard/piano with a band. Yamapi also sings in a steady calm beat in this song, with the instrumental sounding a bit rushed but restless behind his vocals.
A PV was made for Love Chase. It basically features Yamapi singing in a grey room with a metaphoric photoshopped heart appearing every now and then. Then after a girl appears in which Yamapi #2 kisses hearts at, he dances… with himself, haha. And then there were three Yamapis. idek. And then they keep multiplying. Okay then.
I was disappointed with this single. I mean, the songs were potentially good, but it felt like they were lacking. They also sounded pretty basic songs and idk, it might just be Yamapi’s vocals that just aren’t doing it for me.
