Kimi e no Love Song ~10nen Saki mo~, released on 1.25.12, is Matsushita Yuya’s 10th single.
「キミへのラブソング～10年先も～ (Kimi e no Love Song ~10nen Saki mo~)」 is a simple mid-tempo ballad. There is a mix of keyboard, drums, and some guitar to make a simple, but effective instrumental. MatsuYuya sings at a good pace along with the instrumental in a somewhat low key (not like the slightly higher key that is usual with his R&B songs). The song is pretty slow paced and repetitive, so it might get boring after a while. I think it’d be a nice song to pass the time away with. Or maybe even sleep to, haha.
Next up is 「Life in the dark」, starting off with this weird autotune voice and a busy busy instrumental. MatsuYuya begins singing, his voice a bit echo-y and not really that clear. I think they were probably trying to blend in his vocals with the instrumental, but I don’t really like how it sounds. The instrumental has lots of electronica and some keyboard. I just think this song is a mess.
「Dream on dreamer」 is another mess of a song… MatsuYuya starts off right away with some echo-y vocals and a synthesizer+clapping instrumental. The way he sings his lines sound really abrupt and weird and coupled with the instrumental, I don’t like it off the bat. The instrumental does get a bit better in the first verse when it’s only the electronica, but once he passes to the second half of the verse, the synthesizer comes back in right before going back into the chorus.
「Virtual World」 starts off with a futuristic sounding instrumental with the addition of very heavy synthesizer and MatsuYuya’s rap which you can’t really hear over the instrumental. It seems more like a background vocal more than anything because of the strong instrumental. This is a rap song, so if you don’t like pure rap, then this isn’t the song for you.
Ending the single is 「冬空 (Fuyuzora)」 which plays up on the R&B sounds in another slow paced ballad. MatsuYuya takes his time with his vocals, stretching out his notes to do some vibrato (!). The song slowly builds up at the bridge into a strong chorus, which kinda reminds me of the buildup that was in Bird. I quite like this song, especially because of the nice composition.
A PV was made for both Kimi e no Love Song and Fuyuzora. As they’re the ballad songs of the single, they get fairly simple PVs. Off the top of my head, Kimi e no Love Song’s PV features a couple and they end up getting into a fight. The guy wins back his girl by playing a love song (this song) for her. There are a couple shots of MatsuYuya in it, but it’s primarily a drama PV.
I only liked Fuyuzora off this single, which pretty much disappointed me. I do like Kimi e no Love Song, too, but that song is just so boring. It is nice, but boring. I hope MatsuYuya’s newly announced album will feature some better songs.
