迷宮ラブソング, released on 11.02.11, is Arashi’s 36th single. 迷宮ラブソング was used as the theme song for the drama Nazotoki wa Dinner no ato de which member Sakurai Sho stars in.
「迷宮ラブソング (Meikyuu Love Song)」 starts with the ticking of a clock before an energetic band comes in. It goes into a rather sophisticated but upbeat instrumental as the boys sing the first verse together. It’s not until the second verse that each member gets their own solo lines and its done quite nicely as their vocals are pretty different by themselves. Although this song is for Sho’s drama, I think Ohno gets a majority of the lines, which is quite fitting as I think his vocals and the song match each other very well. It’s a fun magical-like song to listen to.
Next is 「消えぬ想い (Kienu Omoi)」, beginning with a melancholy instrumental as Nino starts things up with a soft voice. His voice is slightly echo-y, which continues with the other members as well. The song is quick to go into the bridge and chorus, which the instrumental makes uplifting with its brass and percussion, giving a slightly jazzy feel to it (?).
「Together, forever」 continues the upbeat instrumental with its light electronica and the members’ quick paced lyrics. In the later half of the song, the saxophone solo kinda gives me the image of the old 20th century style like disco stuff.
Either a piccolo or maybe a Japanese flute starts off 「うたかた (Utakata)」 in an upbeat instrumental followed by the boys’ low vocals against a garage drum and keyboard instrumental. It sounds a little dark sounding kinda ala Monster, but not quite as dark as truth.
Last is 「Wanna be…」, a mysterious rock song. I only say mysterious due to the way the boys choose to sing the verses, which sounds a bit cautious. I find the instrumental really busy and a bit messy, but the instrumental during the verses are nice.
A PV was made for Meikyuu Love Song. It’s a quirky PV as it features the members as pieces of a puzzle and sorta places them in a game like monopoly. The video itself is in a sepia-type of color and the members are really quirky and full of personality in the PV.
I can’t help but feel like the same songs are coming from Arashi, but I guess that’s due to the fact that their vocals don’t really sound that different varying from each song so it all starts sounding the same. I did enjoy Meikyuu Love Song and Kienu Omoi however.
