愛を止めないで, released on 9.21.11, is Koda Kumi’s 51st single. Ai wo Tomenaide was used as the theme song for the movie Second Virgin.
「愛を止めないで (Ai wo Tomenaide)」 is a pretty, gradually grand ballad that Koda sings with her slightly husky vocals. By the time the bridge comes around, Koda really stresses her vocals to hit the right notes, and when she comes to the chorus, she gets slightly squeaky, but it’s not too bad. The song is nice, but it’s nothing new from Koda.
The energetic 「You are not alone」 is a song written for the victims of 3/11. She starts off with singing, “You are not alone!” before going into a calmer, but still bright first verse. The chorus is the energetic point of the song with the “You are not alone!” and the uplifting emotion in Koda’s vocals.
A PV was made for Ai wo Tomenaide and You are not alone. Ai wo Tomenaide’s PV takes place in a candle lighted room as Koda walks around in a pretty red dress. There are a couple nude scenes with a male actor but… is it kinda bad of me to say that I wish she would stop jutting out her lips while she’s lipsyncing? Or the fact that it makes her acting look really mediocre. You are not alone’s PV is a simple PV with mostly concert and backstage clips.
I’m not really that much of an avid fan of Koda Kumi’s, so I guess this single didn’t really hit the best notes for me. I do acknowledge that I like the compositions for both songs, but Koda’s vocals always turn me off whenever she goes squeaky.
