V.V.I.P, released on 1.20.11, is Seungri’s solo debut mini-album. (Hmm, what was Strong Baby?) It’ll be the lead up into BIG BANG’s Korean comeback.
「V.V.I.P」 is a triumphant brass instrumental that starts out strong before going into a more electronic instrumental as Seungri sings in what I’d probably call seductive tone xD. The whole point of this song is to say that he’s the hottest guy out of Big Bang and that he wants the girls to choose him LOL. Way to be very narcissist, Seungri. “V.V.I.P” is the name Seungri coins for his fans (since his Japanese stage name is V.I). The song is pretty fun and I find it really amusing.
Next up is 「어쩌라고 (What Do You Want Me To Do)」, a synthesizer instrumental with an R&B feel to it. Seungri’s vocals have that smooth feel to it (nicely edited) but there’s still a bit of autotune in there. It’s your classic synthesizer song, so there’s nothing much to say to it.
「창문을 열어 (feat. G-Dragon) (Open the Window)」 is another slightly synthesized song with a classy piano and brass instrumental behind it. Seungri’s vocals have a bit of an melancholy tone to it, as he asks the girl to “open the window” once the chorus comes up. G-Dragon comes up after the first chorus and his lower vocals coupled with his rap make for a nice little addition to the song. The song is overall pretty melancholy and perhaps a bit bittersweet.
I find the intro to 「Magic」 pretty amusing. “Dang! Yo, check out shorty over there. Yo, VI, what up? You gotta step it up! I don’t know… Don’t give me that! What do you want me to do? Let. Her. Know.” The instrumental is a simple electronica instrumental with Seungri’s breathy vocals to make for a more wistful feel. Hahaha, the English conversations in this song are pretty cute and funny. Huh, this reminds me of Where U At in terms of theme.
「I KNOW (with IU)」 is a cute guitar instrumental with Seungri’s smooth vocals and IU’s higher and lovely pitch. I like how in the first verse when Seungri sings, IU backs him with her supporting vocals and closes the gap between his lines. The same with IU’s verse. The chorus is really sweet and I love how their vocals blend nicely together.
「White Love」’s instrumental focuses on its guitar chords and a few electronica beats, but besides that Seungri’s vocals are sweet though the “oh!” in the background gets really really annoying really fast. The beat is nice, but I’m not really fond of the song.
Last is 「Outro (In My World)」, a simple piano instrumental with Seungri’s low vocals. A bit of a calming song that calms and ends things nicely.
So I can safely say I at least like around three songs in this mini-album. The case isn’t really Seungri’s vocals, but the composition and my taste in songs that really played a part in what I liked and didn’t. V.V.I.P was really interesting, but still too narcissist xD.
